Unusual Bicentennial Quarter Is Worth Almost $90K, Plus Five More Are Very Valuable

In 1976, the U.S. Mint released quarters with a special reverse design featuring a colonial drummer, along with dual dates "1776-1976" to celebrate the nation’s bicentennial.

The quarter in question, which sold for nearly $90,000, is distinguished by its exceptional condition and a rare error.

This specific quarter is a "Double Die Obverse" (DDO) variety, where a mistake during the minting process caused parts of the design to appear doubled.

The combination of the doubling error and its pristine condition makes it a highly coveted piece among collectors.

Beyond the Bicentennial Quarter, there are several other quarters that have fetched high prices due to their rarity, condition, and historical significance.

The 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter is a cornerstone of American numismatics. With a mintage of only 52,000, it is one of the rarest U.S. quarters.

Designed by Hermon A. MacNeil, it features Lady Liberty holding a shield and an olive branch.
